Setup for UltraVNC!

This is the setup for UltraVNC. These screen shots are for the version 1.02 and Windows XP, but the new 1.0.5.6 that will work on Windows Vista is much the same. Use these options during the installation. You’ll also have to check the options for “Configure MS-Logon II” if your computer uses a password to log on.

The admin properties for VNC. A couple of options that you may want to leave from the default settings are under the “Misc.”, the “Remove Wallpaper for Viewers” and “Enable Blank Monitor on Viewer Request” options. This will help speed up what image is being sent to the viewer. The desktop image will reappear once the VNC session is over. Also you do have to set the options for “Query on incoming connection” to NOT have the “Display Query Window” and the “Accept” needs to be selected. If you don’t do this then someone would have to manually accept your remote connection. I also change the option for the “Multi viewer connections” to “Keep existing connections” so that more than one remote computer can log in at once. The session will be a bit slower but it will work.

Windows Firewall settings. Choose both of the UltraVNC programs. The one with the blue icon is the server(the remote comptuer) that lets you log into that computer and the one with the green icon is the viewer that you use to log into and take over the server.

Also you’ll have to open the port or ports on the router you use to let the VNC log into your local network. Most routers work about the same as far as ports and port forwarding. You’ll want to set the computer that you are wanting to log into with a static ip address on your local network. The easiest way is in the router. That way you’ll always have the same address on your network and the VNC will work each time. I usually set the port number in the UltraVNC and the ip address on the local network to the same last two digits. Example – local ip is 192.168.0.42 and the port number (Display number) to 42. In the router then you would forward the VNC as port number 5942 and forward it to 192.168.0.42 and the request from the outside will go right through.
